JOB DESCRIPTION

Founded in 2006 the mission of the Center for Lao Studies (CLS) is to advance knowledge and engagement in the field of Lao Studies through research, education and information sharing. The Program Coordinator is a key staff member of CLS. Reporting to the Executive Director, he/she provides planning and program leadership in all areas of the Center for Lao Studies.

Estimate % of time	Key Responsibilities
25%	Program Planning and Development Work collaboratively with different national and international institutions on various CLS programs. Oversee planning, scheduling and organizing various programs deadlines and implementations. Monitor enrollment, on-line memberships, applications, and other program logistics. Work collaboratively with contractors and IT person.
25%	Program Management Manage day-to-day program operations. Work closely with the Program Director and Executive Director to implement, up keep, recruit, and maintain program memberships. Assist in updating CLS website with relevant and current information on the programs.
25%	Program Promotion/Fundraising Promote CLS programs through mass email, on-line social network, posters, flyers, and presentations. Outreach to potential donors, members, students, and program participants. Work with the Program Director and Executive Director to write articles and press releases to promote CLS and its programs. Explore potential grants for program sustainability and expansion by research and networking.
25%	Program Evaluation Implement consistent program evaluation practices to guide planning and decision-making and support efforts at continuous improvement. Work with the Program Director to put together grant reports for funders.

QUALIFICATIONS / EXPERIENCE

Must be US Citizen or Resident

• Bachelors Degree required
• Masters Degree preferred
• Excellent interpersonal skills
• Minimum 2-3 years experience in the nonprofit sector
• Minimum 2-3 years of management experience
• Self-motivated
• Strong organizational skills
• Strong facilitation Skills
• Decisive
• Good writing and communication skills
• Willing to travel
• Willing to work some nights and weekends
• Demonstrated belief in the Center for Lao Studies' mission and values
• Knowledge of the Lao language is a plus, but not necessary

HOURS

This is a one year temporary position that may be extended or become a permanent full time position. It is a contract position, half-time, 15 hour work week.

Assistant Professor in Asian Religions

The Department of Religious Studies at the University of Pennsylvania invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professorship in Asian Religions. The committee especially welcomes applicants with research and teaching interests in gender, the body, affect, ritual, women’s studies, and/or queer theory. Religion(s) and region(s) of specialization are open (e.g., Islam, Buddhism, Hinduism; West Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, Central Asia, East Asia). Recent PhD recipients are encouraged to apply.

The University of Pennsylvania is a private research university located in Philadelphia. The successful candidate for this new faculty position should have a compelling and original research agenda and a commitment to pursue it within the interdisciplinary framework offered by the Department of Religious Studies, the School of Arts and Sciences, and the wider University. The department has special strengths in material religion, visual culture, manuscript studies, interreligious contacts, and cultural history. The university’s resources for the study of Asian religions include the Department of South Asia Studies, Department of East Asian Languages and Civilizations, Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations, South Asia Center, Middle East Center, Penn Museum, and Kislak Center for Special Collections, Rare Books, and Manuscripts.

A normal teaching load is 4 courses per year on a semester system. The successful candidate will participate in the department’s undergraduate teaching mission as well as graduate teaching and training in the PhD program in Religious Studies.

5th Southeast Asian Studies Symposium 2016

Project Southeast Asia invites proposals for Panels and Papers for the 5th Southeast Asian Studies Symposium 2016. The Symposium is the largest annual Southeast Asian studies conference in the world and will be held at the Mathematical Institute, Oxford. 

The 2016 Symposium will focus on the theme of “Human and Environmental Welfare in Southeast Asia”, but proposals on any topics relating to Southeast Asia are welcome. The deadline for submissions is 1 October 2015.

The University of Wisconsin-Madison, as part of its initiative to re-envision the study of the languages, cultures, and societies of Asia, is seeking to hire a TransAsia / transdisciplinary scholar with expertise in at least one South or Southeast Asian language, beginning August, 2016.  Rank and area of specialization are open. The tenure home will reside in the newly- forming Department of Asian Studies. Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrate the ability to cross disciplinary and cultural borders in their research and teaching, and who have the vision and skills to build new academic programs.  A tenured appointment requires a proven record of excellence in research and teaching at all levels.
