Call for Papers - The Globalized Face of Thai Studies

In the globalized world of the 21st century, areas studies can no longer survive and flourish only within the rigid boundaries of the nation-state. Global issues, such as; transnational migration, cross-cultural interactions, global capitalism, and the continuous rise in influence of the internet, social networks and the cyber community have become increasingly important issues in defining and developing the field of Thai Studies in the contemporary world. If Thai Studies is to remain relevant in today's rapidly transforming world, we can no longer ignore her globalized face.
Graduate Students (MA and PhD) are encouraged to submit abstracts and articles related (but not limited) to the following topics for consideration; 1. Tourism of all sorts and the service/hospitality industry in Thailand 2. Labor migration, human trafficking, and human rights issues in Thailand 3. Diasporas and transnational communities in Thailand 4. Cross-cultural beliefs and practices; superstition, fusion food, marriage migration, etc. 5. New media, cyberspace, and social networks and their influences in establishing new norms and identities in Thai society
Abstracts (>300 words) should be submitted for consideration via email (thaistudiesgrad.symposium@gmail.com) by 18 April 2016.
