Southeast Asia Research Group 2016 Meeting, June 3-4 2016, Ann Arbor, MI

2016 Meeting

SEAREG’s fourth annual meeting will be hosted by the University of Michigan on June 3-4, 2016. A tentative schedule is now available but is subject to change. To register for the conference and pay the $75 fee, please click here.

Hotel Information

SEAREG has reserved a block of rooms at the Graduate Ann Arbor Hotel (615 East Huron Street, Ann Arbor, MI 48104). Rooms are $199/night plus tax. Please contact Renate Kwon if you would like to arrange to share a room (and split the cost) with another SEAREG attendee. Rooms are only guaranteed until May 2, so please make your reservation by this date.
Hotel reservations can be accepted either by phone (734-769-2200 or 800-666-8693) or via the following dedicated online link: http://ow.ly/10AGwt. Please use this link, as the general hotel page will not allow for group rate access.

Transportation to/from Detroit Metro Airport

The estimated UberX or Lyft fare from the airport to the conference hotel is $32-$40. Both may vary based on demand. A regular taxi from the airport will cost $50-$60.
Michigan Flyer operates a motorcoach shuttle between the airport and the Blake Transit Center in downtown Ann Arbor. Tickets can be purchased online in advance ($12 one-way, $22 round-trip); on-board payments ($15 each way) must be made in exact cash. Refer to this page for directions to the shuttle pick-up location at the North or the McNamara terminal (arrival varies by airline). The Blake Transit Center is a 10-minute walk from the conference hotel.
***Note: as of spring 2016, our recommended hotel changed its name from The Campus Inn to Graduate Ann Arbor; some maps may still list it as “The Dahlmann Campus Inn.” The hotel’s address is: 615 East Huron Street, Ann Arbor, MI, 48104.***

Luce Foundation Travel Grants

We are happy to announce that a grant from the Henry Luce Foundation enables us to offer ten (10) grants of up to $500 each to Ph.D. students wishing to attend the 2016 meeting. These grants may be used to defray the costs of travel, accommodations, registration fees, and/or incidentals for students traveling to Ann Arbor. Students wishing to be considered for a travel grant should send the following materials to Allen Hicken via email: (1) a one-page summary of their research interests and experience and (2) a current CV.
Grantees will be chosen based on their scholarly promise as Southeast Asianists as well as attendance of the previous SEAREG meetings. Applications for Luce Foundation travel grants are due no later than May 1, 2016. Decisions will be announced soon thereafter.
