This year's Methods School offers 15 quantitative, qualitative, and formal methods courses, such as Bayesian Analysis, Case Study Analysis, Data Visualization, Experimental Methods, Game Theory, Mixed Methods, Network Analysis, and Quantitative Text Analysis. All courses are taught by highly experienced international faculty and provide participants with rigorous, hands-on training in state-of-the-art research methods.

This pioneering Summer Programme will focus on premodern Javanese Art History, in both its local and translocal dimensions. It will cover from the Central Javanese ‘Hindu-Buddhist’ period to the late Majapahit and Early Islamic period (ca. 8th–early 17th century).

2016 SUMMER STUDIES PROGRAM YOGYAKARTA, INDONESIA    CALL FOR APPLICATIONS Deadline: March 31, 2016 Applications are now being accepted for USINDO's Summer Studies Program.    USINDO runs a renowned intensive nine-week language and general studies program from May to July each year, and has done so for over 20 years. The program, held in Yogyakarta, is open to U.S. college juniors or seniors, currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program, as well as recent graduates (within 6 months) of any U.S. college or university. Participants are selected in a competitive application process.  This year's Summer Studies program will begin on May 26 and end on July 22, 2016. In addition to the language course, the program also includes field trips, special lectures, cultural activities and a short internship/volunteer work opportunity with local organizations in Yogyakarta.       For complete information on the program, download the information sheet here or visit the USINDO website.    Deadlines Applications must be received by USINDO no later than March 31, 2016. Applicants will be notified of the decisions at the end of April 2016, subject to availability of funds.   Application Submission All of the following application documents must be submitted via email to  summerstudies@usindo.org. Letter of recommendation: One (1) recommendation letter is required. Recommenders must submit the letter of recommendation directly to summerstudies@usindo.org.Applicants are responsible for ensuring their applications are submitted on time. Only complete applications will be considered.  Eligibility Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and college juniors or seniors, currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program. They may also be recent graduates (within 6 months) of any U.S. college or university.   Criteria for Selection Applicants will be judged by the clarity of communication in their personal statements and their demonstrated interest in Indonesia or in learning about Indonesia. A strong academic record is required as well as a demonstrated interest and success in learning languages. Previous foreign travel is desirable but not necessary. Stated career plans will be judged in part on the likelihood that such a career will involve communicating knowledge of Indonesia to a broader audience.   Applicants will be required to participate in all Summer Studies activities, including attendance at classes and taking a final examination. Participants will be required to sign a statement verifying this intention, as well as a release form, upon admission to the program. Participants should be available to depart from the United States with the group.   Fee The cost of the program participation is $2,000. Program cost covers tuition, housing and board, airfare, student visas, and health insurance. All other incidentals will be the responsibility of the students. Airfare USINDO purchases roundtrip air tickets to Yogyakarta for students from any city in the US. Travel arrangements are made by USINDO. Visa USINDO will process the student visas at the Embassy of Indonesia in Washington, DC. Students MUST possess a passport that is valid at least until December 2016, AND must have at least four blank visa pages in their passport.    Health Insurance USINDO purchases international health insurance and will pay for the premium for each student for 3 months coverage (May, June, July). Leadership in Action Summer Internship

Leadership in Action (LIA) is an eight-week paid summer internship program designed to develop emerging young leaders by providing college students with practical leadership skills and the opportunity to gain hands-on experience working in Asian and Pacific Islander (API) community in Southern California.

Leadership in Action interns are placed in selected community-based organizations in Southern California, where they are expected to work 4 full days per week under an assigned staff supervisor.  Work assignments differ according to each organization's programs and needs.

Each week, one day will be devoted to leadership development training or issue discussions and group project work.  Nationally recognized trainers will deliver workshops in critical skill areas.  Issue discussions are on local or timely topics of interest and are facilitated by local community leaders/activists and LEAP trainers.

PROGRAM LENGTH AND STIPEND

The eight-week program runs from June 13 through August 5, 2016.  Interns will receive compensation in the amount of $3,200 for successful completion of the program and are responsible for their own housing, transportation, and insurance.

 

WHO SHOULD APPLY?

College students or recent graduates with... 

• Prior experience in API communities

• A passion for learning and growing leadership skills 

• An interest in gaining work experience in an API community-based nonprofit organization

Kaya Co. - Summer 2016 Fellowship in the Philippines

Kaya Collaborative aims to inspire, educate, and mobilize Filipino diaspora youth as partners to long-term, locally-led social change in the Philippines.

We have just opened the applications for our 2016 summer fellowship, an 8-week program that aims to train the next generation of global Filipinos as global leaders and movement-builders for a stronger Philippines.  The fellowship will take place in Metro Manila, and it involves:

• a personalized internship with a social venture or nonprofit in Manila
• a  social change curriculum that includes discussions and workshops with business, government, and citizen leaders in the Philippines
• a shared project that focuses on the question: how might we connect our global community to the Philippines?
