The Sumitro Chair for Southeast Asia Studies at CSIS provides substantive research and dialogue on Southeast Asia policy and regional issues. Since the program began in 2009, the need for a serious and sustained policy focus on Southeast Asia continues to grow. As strategic interest in Asia rises, CSIS remains committed to its position as a premier outlet for research, analysis, and dynamic policy dialogue with Southeast Asia.

CSIS offers full and part-time internships for undergraduates, graduate students, and recent graduates who are interested in gaining practical experience in public policy. The Southeast Asia program is looking for full-time and part-time interns. The position is paid.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Sumitro Chair is recruiting interns who are highly motivated, professional, and have a strong foundation in Southeast Asia studies and international relations/political economy. We operate a fast-paced, dynamic program, and require interns who are detail-oriented and can work independently or as part of a team. Strong preference will be given to candidates who:

•                    Demonstrate excellent writing and research skills

•                    Possess a deep grasp of Southeast Asia’s current political climate and history

•                    Have a positive attitude and outstanding communication/interpersonal skills

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Interns will contribute to long-term research projects, assist with events hosted by the program, compile the “Southeast Asia from Scott Circle” newsletter, contribute to the program’s social media presence, and provide general support.

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:

·         Must be at least a college junior in good standing, an advanced student, or a recent graduate.

·         Must have at least a 3.0 GPA (on a 4.0 scale) from an accredited U.S. institution or equivalent from a non-U.S. institution.

·         Must be able to work in the United States.

·         Proficiency with Microsoft Office.

The physical demands are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

3-Day Digital Scholarship Residency at Emory University, Spring 2016

The Emory Center for Digital Scholarship (ECDS) is now accepting proposals for a 3-day digital scholarship residency at Emory University during the Spring semester 2016. Scholars from any discipline who use and promote digital scholarship methods in research and teaching are encouraged to apply.

The residency will include a 45-minute presentation on your digital scholarship open to the Emory community, a workshop on digital scholarship in pedagogy for faculty and graduate students, and the opportunity to hold meetings with faculty and graduate students to foster collaboration across institutions and disciplines. The residency is designed to create unique opportunities for visiting scholars to share their innovative digital scholarship approaches with the Emory community and demonstrate how digital scholarship is changing research and teaching in higher education.

Potential topics may include, but are not limited to:

• topic modeling

• data visualization and GIS

• film, video, and other media production

• text analysis

• open access/data/educational resources and tools

Applicants should be faculty, academic staff, or advanced PhD students and incorporate digital scholarship in their teaching and research. ECDS will provide an honorarium of $1000 for the residency plus travel, accommodations near Emory University, and meals.

The Field Museum is pleased to announce two 2014 Regenstein Pacific Collections Internships. 
Both internships this year will be dedicated to the co-curation of the Museum's outstanding ethnographic collections from the Philippines in partnership with Filipino-Americans here in Chicago (https://sites.google.com/a/fieldmuseum.org/pacific-web/Home/partnerships/co-curation). This is a paid internship for full-time work over a 12 week period, usually during the summer months although other scheduling is possible.
One of these internships will be awarded to an advanced undergraduate or beginning graduate student to work under the supervision of Jamie Kelly (Head of Anthropology Collections) and John Edward Terrell, Ph.D. (Regenstein Curator of Pacific Anthropology) with our co-curatorial partners from the Filipino-American community in Chicago to develop an ESRI "story map" website (http://storymaps.esri.com/templategallery/) featuring objects and images from and about the Philippines and the remarkable heritage objects co-curated here at the Museum.
A second internship will be awarded to a beginning graduate student.  Also under the supervision of Kelly and Terrell, this intern will work directly with our co-curatorial partners to facilitate community engagement with objects at the Museum from the Philippines on the marae of Ruatepupuke II at the Museum (https://sites.google.com/a/fieldmuseum.org/pacific-web/Home/partnerships/chicago.

Position: fieldwork research in Indonesia

Talented and eager ethnographic researchers wanted to conduct case studies of health information and social action interventions in Tanzania and Indonesia. The research project is being conducted by scholars and practitioners at the Ash Center of the Harvard Kennedy School and the Results for Development Institute in Washington, D.C. Each scholar will be expected to closely observe between 5-10 communities in one of the two countries for two years to document the social and political processes of informational intervention, dissemination, reception, social action, and response. These case studies will be paired with separate quantitative survey studies of a larger group of communities. This project is ideal for doctoral students who plan to do field work and write dissertations in either Tanzania or Indonesia. Research project will provide travel, a stipend of $26,000 per year, and language training as needed. Strong references a must and prior field research experience a strong plus.
