The 8th Military Information Support Group, Ft. Bragg, NC, has an opening for a civilian Southeast Asia area specialist with social science expertise. Completion of a Ph.D. is preferred, but holders of M.A. degrees will be given consideration, as will others with suitable social science and analysis experience. Actual on-the-ground work, study, or research experience in Southeast Asia is extremely desirable.
- The job opening is in the GMI GG-0132 series (military intelligence specialist). Intelligence specialists in this organization work as Cultural Intelligence Analysts, doing social science-type research and writing analytical assessments that are relevant to U.S. policy or mission interests. The person selected will work with other Asia specialists, all of whom have advanced degrees and extensive regional experience, as well as with military personnel who are experts in information and influence operations.
- The position calls for expertise in one of the social sciences, strong research and writing skills, in-depth country-specific cultural knowledge of one or more Southeast Asian countries, along with knowledge of the Asia-Pacific region in general, and a minimum score of 2/2 on the listening and reading comprehension portions of the Defense Language Proficiency Test for Indonesian, Thai, Malay, Cambodian, Tagalog, or another Southeast Asian language. The position may require travel periodically in the United States and abroad. The incumbent of this position analyzes information from both classified and unclassified sources. Candidate must be a U.S. citizen who is able to obtain a top secret security clearance.
- Hiring is at the GG-12 level with a starting salary of $73,242, after which there are periodic salary step increases. The GG-12 salary range is $73,242-$95,214.
